Radiative Mechanism to Light Fermion Masses in the MSSM
In a previous work we have showed that the Symmetry,
imply that the light fermions, the electron and the quarks, and , get
their masses only at one loop level. Here, we considere the more general
hypothesis for flavour mixing in the sfermion sector in the MSSM. Then, we
present our results to the masses of these light fermions and as a final result
we can explain why the quark is heavier than the quarks. This
mechanism is in agrement with the experimental constraint on the sfermion's
masses values.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, TeX mistakes corrected, accepted for publication

Testing Broken U(1) Symmetry in a Two-Component Atomic Bose-Einstein Condensate
We present a scheme for determining if the quantum state of a small trapped
Bose-Einstein condensate is a state with well defined number of atoms, a Fock
state, or a state with a broken U(1) gauge symmetry, a coherent state. The
proposal is based on the observation of Ramsey fringes. The population
difference observed in a Ramsey fringe experiment will exhibit collapse and
revivals due to the mean-field interactions. The collapse and revival times
depend on the relative strength of the mean-field interactions for the two
components and the initial quantum state of the condensate.Comment: 20 Pages RevTex, 3 Figure
Preparation and manipulation of molecules for fundamental physics tests
This paper is a chapter from an upcoming book on cold molecule physics. In it
we describe techniques for the preparation and manipulation of cold molecules.
We further describe techniques for applying said cold molecules to tests of
fundamental physics.Comment: 22 pages, 18 figure
Single Atom and Two Atom Ramsey Interferometry with Quantized Fields
Implications of field quantization on Ramsey interferometry are discussed and
general conditions for the occurrence of interference are obtained.
Interferences do not occur if the fields in two Ramsey zones have precise
number of photons. However in this case we show how two atom (like two photon)
interferometry can be used to discern a variety of interference effects as the
two independent Ramsey zones get entangled by the passage of first atom.
Generation of various entangled states like |0,2>+|2,0> are discussed and in
far off resonance case generation of entangled state of two coherent states is
discussed.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, revised version. submitted to Phys. Rev.

Coherent manipulation of atomic qubits in optical micropotentials
We experimentally demonstrate the coherent manipulation of atomic states in
far-detuned dipole traps and registers of dipole traps based on two-dimensional
arrays of microlenses. By applying Rabi, Ramsey, and spin-echo techniques, we
systematically investigate the dephasing mechanisms and determine the coherence
time. Simultaneous Ramsey measurements in up to 16 dipole traps are performed
and proves the scalability of our approach. This represents an important step
in the application of scalable registers of atomic qubits for quantum
information processing. In addition, this system can serve as the basis for
novel atomic clocks making use of the parallel operation of a large number of
individual clocks each remaining separately addressable.Comment: to be published in Appl. Phys.
Default Mode Network in the Effects of ¿9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on Human Executive Function
Evidence is increasing for involvement of the endocannabinoid system in cognitive functions including attention and executive function, as well as in psychiatric disorders characterized by cognitive deficits, such as schizophrenia. Executive function appears to be associated with both modulation of active networks and inhibition of activity in the default mode network. In the present study, we examined the role of the endocannabinoid system in executive function, focusing on both the associated brain network and the default mode network. A pharmacological functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study was conducted with a placebo-controlled, cross-over design, investigating effects of the endocannabinoid agonist ¿9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on executive function in 20 healthy volunteers, using a continuous performance task with identical pairs. Task performance was impaired after THC administration, reflected in both an increase in false alarms and a reduction in detected targets. This was associated with reduced deactivation in a set of brain regions linked to the default mode network, including posterior cingulate cortex and angular gyrus. Less deactivation was significantly correlated with lower performance after THC. Regions that were activated by the continuous performance task, notably bilateral prefrontal and parietal cortex, did not show effects of THC. These findings suggest an important role for the endocannabinoid system in both default mode modulation and executive function. This may be relevant for psychiatric disorders associated with executive function deficits, such as schizophrenia and ADH
Future Directions in Parity Violation: From Quarks to the Cosmos
I discuss the prospects for future studies of parity-violating (PV)
interactions at low energies and the insights they might provide about open
questions in the Standard Model as well as physics that lies beyond it. I cover
four types of parity-violating observables: PV electron scattering; PV hadronic
interactions; PV correlations in weak decays; and searches for the permanent
electric dipole moments of quantum systems.Comment: Talk given at PAVI 06 workshop on parity-violating interactions,
